About

An avid rider for decades, I have combined my love for horses with an interest in photography. I was fortunate to grow up in a house that had a semi-professional photographer (my Dad) and fully equipped darkroom. I had my first camera, a Brownie when I was about 8 years old, but I graduated to shooting Kodachrome film when I went off to school in England at the age of 18.

I now use a Nikon D70, with an assortment of Nikkor and Tamron lenses; the Nikkor f2.8 70 - 200 being the one used the most. The advent of digital photography has permitted me to practice more than ever before. In recent years I have developed my own style, based on natural light and existing environment elements. By understanding the behaviour of horses, I am able to anticipate some shots and be ready when they happen, and hopefully be in the right location on occasion.

With the encouragement from my mentor Barbara Sheridan, I submitted a favourite shot to the Equine Online Photography Contest in 2008. 'The Stethoscope' won First Place in the Amateur, Horses and Human category, over entries from 14 countries.
